Behind A Winter's Tale: Meet Our Head Of Product and Design
Welcome to the cosy embrace of a new winter homewares season here at Ecology! As the crisp chill of Autumn and Winter settles in, it brings with it an invitation to transform our living spaces into sanctuaries of warmth and comfort. In this journal, we talk to Ecology’s Product and Design Manager, Jess Steinki to discuss all the ins and out of our most recent collection – A Winter’s Tale.

Brittanie: Congratulations on this awesome season release! We're dying to know, what inspired your design direction for A Winter's Tale?
Jess: The inspiration for this season's release came from the deep appreciation we have for the traditional aspects of wintering and settling into the slower season.
B: Love it! We're so excited to settle into the season and get cozy. What is your favourite range from the collection?
J: That's not an easy one to answer, it's like asking if I have a favorite child! I can't choose one so this is the best I can do... Bedding for me this season is the Wildflower sheets, I love a printed sheet and that ditsy floral is perfect! Dinnerware is the beautiful Jardin that delicate deboss pattern paired with Element Dew is the perfect table setting! Also, how about that amazing Jardin centrepiece, love! And my favourite glassware would be the double wall latte glass from Infuse, my morning coffee experience has gone up a level!
B: What makes this different from last Winter's drop?
J:Every season has its own theme and differences however last winter had a coastal theme so lots more blue, this season blue is not as strong (still there) but the colours have shifted to a warmer cozy palette.
B: How do you want people feel and what feelings did you want to create from this collection?
J: I want everyone to get a little joy from the items. I love when I find that perfect piece that sings to me. It's that magic little touch that can make me cook that special dinner or it can make that not-so-special meal look a lot better!
B: How do you see customers incorporating this collection into their homes?
J: When designing our season, we are always talking about how we would use this in our own homes. We all envision our next family meal or just the regular weekly dinner on the couch with that perfect bowl. So hopefully our customers are using it like us, falling in love with a colour, texture or shape and seeing that it will work in their spaces like we do. I also think our amazing imagery the team shoot for the season shows how these pieces look when all paired together! They take the hard part out of figuring out how to dress it the best!
B: And for the die-hard Ecology fans, any tips on how the collection can be styled with their existing Ecology pieces?
J: Easy! This is always a top priority for the team, our designs need to fit back with existing ranges, you can use our beautiful Ottawa Calico with Jardin or even the bold Element Raven. The new printed sheet in Wildflower works well with so many of our Dream quilt covers, have you seen how good it goes with the Clay?
B: Thanks so much Jess! Last question before we wrap up. Did anything surprise you during the creation of this collection?
J: I always start every season so excited and am always surprised at how much I love each season more than the last. All the beautiful colours and ideas are just too enticing you never know what's around the corner and what the next beautiful design will be.
