Learning how to make a cocktail doesn't have to be intimidating or require copious amounts of liquor, fruits, or tools. Most cocktails (or mocktails) are made up of a few fundamental components and can be built with ANY base liquor like bourbon, tequila, rum, vodka, gin, or even a reposado!
What you will need:
Sugar Syrup: You can make your own with the 1:1 ratio i.e. 1 cup sugar to 1 cup water, cool, bottle and refrigerate.
Citrus: This is the secret ingredient in my opinion. The ‘sourness' is what balances out the sweetness of the drink.
Aquafaba: This is what gives a cocktail a creamy texture, this component is optional. To achieve this use egg whites or the liquid from a can of chickpeas for a vegan option
Method:
-
In a cocktail shaker, muddle your choice of fruit and add ice - literally ANY fruit works!
-
Add 60 mils of spirit (of your choice)
-
Add 15 mils of citrus, 10 mils of sugar syrup and 1 egg white
-
SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE
Serve it long, serve it short, serve it in a coupe, serve it with soda, without the soda, without the egg whites - the choice is ALL yours!
